O2 Optix are monthly disposable lenses.
O2 OPTIX contact lenses provides the highest oxygen transmissibility of any daily wear contact lens in the market today.
Your eyes need oxygen to stay healthy and comfortable. But soft contact lenses create a barrier to the flow of oxygen between your eyes and the air around them. O2OPTIX provides the highest oxygen transmissibility of any daily wear contact lens, helping to keep eyes whiter, brighter and healthy-looking.

CIBA's new breathable contact lenses provide more than five times the oxygen of most other soft lens materials.
Silicone hydrogel soft contact lenses, the latest and greatest asset to the contact lens prescriber's inventory, have changed contact lens fitting and care in recent years. CIBA Vision, a Novartis Company, recently introduced the newest member to this elite silicone hydrogel family: the O2OPTIX two-week disposable contact lens.

The Silicone Hydrogel Solution
The busy lifestyle of the typical contact lens wearer demands a lens that provides plenty of oxygen at all times of the day. CIBA has addressed these issues with its new state-of-the-art “breathable” O2OPTIX contact lens, which provides more than five times the oxygen of most soft contact lenses.
O2OPTIX is a two-week replace-ment product made from lotrafilcon B, a 33% water content lens material. This patented silicone hydrogel material is combined with a permanent surface treatment to create a biocompatible lens surface that provides excellent wettability and breathability.
The unique molecular structure allows water to pass through the lens material while providing high levels of oxygen transmission to the cornea. The lens is also able to move freely on the eye, thereby helping to provide additional oxygen to the cornea.

According to CIBA, with a Dk/t of 138, the lens has higher oxygen transmissibility than other lenses in the two-week replacement category. Its Dk/t is also well above the minimum standard of oxygen transmissibility needed for daily wear lenses, thereby aiding in the avoidance of corneal hypoxia.
An Ideal Choice
O2OPTIX is a good lens option for patients who wear their lenses for long periods of time during the day. The contact lens wearer who has complaints of irritation, redness, and general discomfort with traditional HEMA soft contact lenses, and those patients with contact lens-related dryness may experience significantly more comfort, longer wear time, and improved corneal oxygenation. Lens care is made easy with products such as CIBA's new AQuify ® 5 Minute Multi-Purpose Solution or Clear Care ® .
Availability
O2OPTIX is currently available in one base curve, 8.6mm, with sphere powers ranging from –1.00D to –6.00D in 0.25D steps. Power expansion is expected in 2005 and a toric O2OPTIX lens is in development.
Lenses are packaged in a convenient six-pack and have a pale blue visibility tint, thus making handling virtually trouble-free. The lenses are approved for daily wear and extended wear, up to six nights in the U.S.
When the benefits of O2OPTIX are explained to patients, these contact lenses should become a top choice for wearers looking for comfortable two-week disposables.
